Back in chicago..

We made it back to chicago by about 6pm on friday and I ended up spending till 2am working with engineers in china to find a way to work around a SSL bug in the RSA SSL-C library to allow it to support more then 256 file descriptors. We have a major customer who is going apeshit over their system going down once a day due to this SSL bug.

This is one of the things that worries me the most with becoming dependant on code I don't have control of. The more code we use that somebody else owns, the harder it is to keep our customers in production when something goes wrong. How annoying..

Today (saturday) we spent a good 3 hours looking for a nemo stuffed animal. My daughter lost her fissshhh and it is driving her crazy. We ended up at toys-r-us and picked up a replacement that is not quite as good but it will hold her over until i can order a replacement from disney over the internet.

Tonight I am writting coverage tests for the SSL-C hack I designed last night so that the group in china can attempt to do them over the next day or two and we can give the code fix to the customer.

The eAthena mirror seems to be broken.. has something to do with me upgrading spamassassin and exim on the master server last week. I am thinking of just moving the svn server entirely to hunter and eliminating the mirror.

So, I was approched about doing a half-life-2 mod for MMZ (my clan) and it made me think.. I think it would be a great idea in that I might be able to make a HL2 server that lets people chat, play adventure games, etc.. I think the HL2 client would be a great client engine... why bother re-inventing the wheel?

So, instead of messing with world forge I think I am going to play with HL2 for a few days (now that i have a laptop that can actually handle HL2) and see if I can make a simple chat program

ok, back to SSL coverage tests
